The $68.9 million the Top 12 grossed combined this past weekend was the lowest in that category since 2000, when Bring It On brought in $11.4 million to almost best #2 & #3 combined. The $87 million total from this past weekend was the lowest for the 35th weekend of a year since 2001 when Jeepers Creepers topped the box office. Event though there aren’t many “tentpole” movies released during this weekend, the box office still sees a jump when it’s a holiday weekend. This 35th weekend of the year is an odd one because sometimes it’s Labor Day Weekend and sometimes it’s not. The overall box office gross this past weekend was $87.76 million, which was the smallest total for a weekend this year by almost $10 million. Sinister 2 rounded out the top five with $4.67 million in its second weekend of release. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation brought in $8.155 million in its fifth weekend of release while No Escape took fourth place with $8.11 million in its debut.
